Behind the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) seal is an independent, not-for-profit organization called NSF International. For over 50 years, NSF has worked to protect public health, safely and the environment by developing standards, educating the public, and providing independent third-party testing and certification.
NSF is widely recognized for scientific and technical expertise in the health and environment sciences. Its staff includes engineers, chemists, toxicologists, microbiologists and environmental health professionals with broad experience in both public and private organizations.
Clivus composting toilets are certified under NSF Wastewater Recycle/Reuse & Water Conservation System standards. Under these standards, Clivus has been awarded Seal No. 855, which is displayed on our composting toilets. NSF certification ensures that:
Clivus Products are structurally sound
Performance claims are substantiated.
End-products are safe for return to biological cycles
Clivus provides customer support in the form of technical literture and assistance
Clivus products are also certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
